Here's everything people ask about Peshi. Don't see yours? Email me at claire@peshihome.com and I'll get back to you within a day.
Peshi is flat-woven by artisans at a family mill in Turkey, from 100% organic cotton. That weave soaks up spills fast and dries fast, so it doesn't sit damp and start to smell like thick terry towels do. And unlike most kitchen towels, it's pretty enough to leave out. It also gets softer every time you wash it.
That's the point. Thick terry towels hold water for hours. A flat weave soaks up a spill just as well, then dries quickly and folds flat in the drawer. Give it a few washes and you won't go back.
Peshi is short for peştemal, the flat-woven Turkish towel that's been made the same way for centuries. Peshi brings it into the kitchen.
19.7" x 27.6" (50 x 70 cm). Big enough to dry a sink full of dishes, small enough to hang neatly on the oven door.
Machine wash cold with like colors, and tumble dry low. Skip the bleach and fabric softener: softener coats the fibers and makes any towel less absorbent. High heat does the same over time. Do that, and your Peshi gets softer and more absorbent with every wash.
Yes. The cotton is GOTS-certified organic, which covers the whole chain from farm to finished towel: no pesticides, strict limits on dyes and chemicals, and fair working conditions. The finished towels are also OEKO-TEX® certified, which means they're tested for over 100 harmful substances. That matters for something touching your dishes and food. And one Peshi can replace hundreds of paper towels.
With normal care, expect 2+ years of daily use. The tight weave holds its shape and color through hundreds of washes. It's time for a new one when it keeps a musty smell after washing or stops soaking things up. (By then you'll probably already have a favorite color in mind.)
